About us

Understanding and mitigating the impact of exclusion on marginalised communities. With more than 38 million Nigerian adults completely excluded from the financial system and 59 million without bank accounts, financial exclusion remains a significant contributor to wider exclusion challenges, and is a core focus of the Inclusion for All initiative.

Multi-faceted barriers exist extenuating exclusion

Marginalised communities face a wide variety of barriers to inclusion, from ownership of the Identity documentation required to access services, to the cost of entry and proximity of an access point of those services as well as cultural, religious and trust barriers.

Understanding exclusion

The Inclusion for All initiative is a multi-faceted advocacy programme that seeks to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the impact of exclusion on marginalised communities, and on Nigeria as a whole, while advocating for the barriers to their inclusion to be removed.

Supporting communities

Marginalised communities are desperately in need of help and support but they are the most difficult groups to access in order to provide it. They are more likely to be women, young and to live in rural areas. We want everyone to have access to the support and services that give them the ability to enhance their lives.

We represent marginalized communities across Nigeria who face barriers to financial inclusion, including women, youth, rural populations, and other underserved groups.

Currently, our initiative focuses on Nigeria, where we work to understand and address the specific challenges and barriers to financial inclusion faced by marginalised communities.

We campaign on various issues related to financial inclusion, including access to banking services, digital financial literacy, identity documentation, and removing cultural and religious barriers to financial services.

Our initiative focuses on understanding and addressing the multi-faceted barriers to financial inclusion, advocating for policy changes, and developing practical solutions to make financial services accessible to all Nigerians.

We operate through research, advocacy, and partnerships with local communities, financial institutions, and policymakers to identify barriers to inclusion and develop effective solutions.

The Inclusion For All website is built on the Takwimu.Africa open source framework. All data is managed on our Google Big Query data warehouse. The visualisation engine for this site is Google Data Studio, enabling ease of access and collaboration with partners in the African data advocacy space. The front end is a progressive web app built in Vue.js on a Firebase back end - offering a high degree of reusability and opportunity to publish additional front end sites over these or other data collections. We are currently in the process of fully open sourcing our use of these technologies and welcome enquiries from organisations interested in working with us to extend data visualisation capability for development policy engagement and progress.

The data sets used in the Inclusion for all site are selected to reflect a variety of thematic focus areas that evolve over time, but are all chosen on the basis of the insights they provide on excluded populations access to services. Data sets are cleaned, ordered and then interrogated to identity and assess patterns across a range of demographics including poverty, education, age, gender and region.

The charts embedded on the Inclusion for all site are hosted as publicly available Google Data studio charts and users have direct access to all the Google Data Studio functionality, including the ability to apply a variety of filters to the data, where they are embedded. This is designed to allow the user to explore and understand trends and patterns in the data for themselves. Charts can be downloaded from Google Data Studio directly in PDF format, or can be embedded in your own website by clicking through to Google Data Studio and selecting the share button.
